New Work:2013Spaces PortraitsObjects
My work deals with the interaction of the isolated figure with its environment. I am interested in the tension created by exaggerating the geometric elements of the space and the organic nature of the figure. Central to the concept is the physicality of paint used. The paint is pushed across the surface back and forth and then scraped down to create complex fields of color to contrast with the formal dimensionality of the figure. The actions of the figure are generally ambiguous or mundane in their nature, causing the drama to come from the use of paint rather than a sensational use of imagery.
